Comprehensive Educational Evaluations:
A comprehensive evaluation is going to be the most thorough educational evaluation. This type of evaluation is going to assess a student’s cognitive and academic abilities. Cognitive skills are taking a look into how a student thinks and processes information as well as how they comprehend and perform specific tasks. In addition, assessing cognitive skills will provide information on a student’s working memory and their ability to recall information. Academic achievement is looking at how a student is performing in reading, writing, and math. Both cognitive and academic assessments are norm-referenced, meaning a student’s scores are compared to others of the same age.
A comprehensive evaluation is used to determine the presence of a specific learning disability, including dyslexia and dysgraphia as well as determining any challenges a student may face in regards to their cognitive and academic skills. Results can help determine appropriate accommodations and modifications a student may need in their academic and everyday environment.
Assessments can take anywhere between 4-6 hours to complete. The diagnostician will provide each student with two 3 hour sessions to administer and complete the assessments. After assessments are conducted and scores are interpreted, the diagnostician provides parents with a detailed report identifying specific information that can help determine the best educational placement or services needed for the student. The cost for this thorough evaluation is a one time fee that covers all testing materials, testing time, and any meetings between the parents and diagnostician.
